The Speech Pathology team assess and treat infants and children with a range of swallowing and communication difficulties, including those born prematurely, those with complex respiratory, gastrointestinal, and neurological conditions, acquired brain injuries, craniofacial conditions (i.e. cleft lip and palate) and developmental disorders (i.e. Autism Spectrum Disorder).

Monash Health provides Speech Pathology services to Monash Children’s Hospital patients both in an acute setting within our hospitals and in the community.

Speech Pathology services

The Speech Pathology team at Monash Children’s Hospital assess and treat infants and children with a range of swallowing and communication difficulties. This includes those born prematurely, those with complex respiratory, gastrointestinal, or neurological conditions, acquired brain injuries, craniofacial conditions (i.e. cleft lip and palate) and developmental disorders (i.e. Autism Spectrum Disorder).

Videofluoroscopy is completed on site for the assessment of swallowing difficulties.

Referrals

Monash Children’s Hospital Acute Speech Pathology service only accepts referrals from within Monash Health. Referrals can be made via EMR for inpatients and SMR e-Referral for outpatients.

Videofluoroscopy

Patients presenting with dysphagia can be referred to Speech Pathology for Videofluoroscopy.

Videofluoroscopy is completed on site for the assessment of swallowing difficulties.

If the referral is from a Speech Pathologist, please also include a signed referral from the GP to access radiology services.
