Paediatric Surgery

Monash Children’s provides care designed specifically for the needs of children and their families.

The department of general paediatric surgery is staffed by 7 specialist surgeons, a urology fellow, 4 specialist registrars and a surgical resident. Our registrars are often very experienced overseas visiting surgeons who have completed surgical training in their own country and come to work with us to gain further experience. We treat chidren from birth to their 16th birthday. The bulk of our department's clinical work is performed at Monash Medical Centre, Clayton. We also provide out patients and mainly elective surgical care to children at Casey Hospital.

We maintain close working relationships with other paediatric subspecialists and our adult surgical colleagues within Southern Health. A number of our staff have co-appointments at the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne.

Our primary goal is to provide prompt expertise in the diagnosis and management of both straightforward and complex conditions.

Our department has embraced the role of minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery where appropriate, and we perform several hundred of these operations each year.
The department is supported by a team of allied health professionals from ward to office staff.
